CHEN

The Warriors took a hit last night playing the CHEN Bravehearts. The game was physical and the officiating left the fans frustrated...but our girls showed that they were the ones with the brave hearts. The final score was CHEN 39, Warriors 29. Even though ten points seems to be a big margin, the Warriors never gave up the fight. They played hard and continued to pound the boards. Everyone got playing time and everyone played hard. Rebecca Reifsnider had 2 assists, 5 blocks and 11 rebounds. Charity Poole and Sarah Reifsnider also grabbed 7 and 6 rebounds respectively. Sarah also had 2 assists. Elizabeth Catoe who took a hard blow to the stomach had 2 blocks. Practice resumes tonight and the Warriors move on to the next challenge which comes after the holiday.

The Warriors took on the 5th-6th grade team at Heritage Academy in Hagerstown, Monday night and came out victorious with a 29-25 win. This was a game that allowed our younger and less experienced players to get a lot of court time. The Warriors started fast, racing to a 10-4 first quarter lead and then a 21-7 halftime lead. Leading scorers were John Koffman and Chris Lamont, each with 8 points. Other scorers included Daniel Passarelli (5), Jonathan Kiewit (4), Josiah Carstens (2), and Nathan Williams (2). The 2-0 boys next take on Carlisle Christian Academy on January 5.

Carroll Christian

The Lady Warriors headed to Carroll Christian on Monday night to take on the Patriots. The Patriots always promise a tough match and Monday night's games were no different. The Middle School team took the court first. Somewhere in the middle of the 3rd quarter, they found themselves down by as much as ten points. With determination and Warrior strength they managed to come back and win the game by one point. Emily Passarelli and Maggie Quick both nabbed 4 steals each. Maggie led the team in rebounding with a total of 9 combined offensive and defensive rebounds. Emily Matthews pulled in 17 points for the Lady Warriors. Kathryn Romanchuk, Joanna Hughes and Jackie Lamont both added to the win with their rebounding and fierce play. The final score was 33-34. Way to go ladies.

The Varsity girls had their match up next. They played hard and worked tirelessly throughout the game. Again, this was another nail biter. Each girl gave their all as they pounded the boards and grabbed rebounds. The final score was Carroll Christian 37 - Warriors 36. Great game Lady Warriors.

Special thanks to DJ Matthews for taking pictures during the Middle School game. Great job DJ!!
The Varsity team will compete in a tournament at St. Maria Goretti this Friday. Tip off is scheduled for 7:45. Go Warriors!

Ashburn, VA

Monday night the Warriors trekked to Ashburn, VA to take on the Catamounts. The middle school boys and girls each had their season opener. The varsity embarked on their third game. All three teams picked up wins on Thursday, making the ride home enjoyable (right parents!?) The high scorer for the boys was Chris Lamont. Christopher Leao, John Koffman, Jonathan Kiewit, and Nathan Williams all put up baskets to add to the final score. The boys all played strong and made a great first showing!

The Middle School girls captured their first victory with a score of 36-8. Every girl contributed to that win!

The varsity girls final score was 33 to 25. Rebecca Reifsnider had 4 blocks and 17 rebounds. Liz Catoe united the team with her 6 assists.

Congratulations to all our Warriors! Job well done. Tonight the Warriors take on Carroll Christian in Westminster.

Lions Invitational

...but we're just getting started. The Lady Warriors played some great ball the past two days. We showed up at the Lions Invitational Tournament not really sure what the outcome would be. In the first round, our girls defeated Broadfording Christian 32-23. Defense was really tight and our Warriors rallied in the fourth quarter to pull out the win. Elizabeth Catoe had 8 points, Charity Poole 2, Rebecca Reifsnider ended the game as high scorer with 14 points and her sister, Sarah was right on her tail with 12 points

Last night, the Lady Warriors met St. Maria Goretti in the championship game. Goretti knocked off Faith Christian 70-11 on Monday night to make it to the final round. To say our Warriors were feeling like Gideon is an understatement. But they came out and gave Goretti a tough fight.

The final score was Goretti 37, Frederick 22. Our high scorer of the night was Emily Pritt with 9 points, Charity Poole gave us 6 points and Rebecca Reifsnider and Krista Duke pulled in 3 and 2 respectively. Charity Poole was named to the tournament all star team. She had 10 rebounds and 4 steals during the championship game.

Our Lady Warriors are now 1-1 and they're just getting warmed up! Great job coaches, great job ladies! Go Warriors!

Preseason

The Warriors have been working hard practicing and learning plays. Coach Barry, Coach John, Coach Phil and Coach Drew have delivered their playbooks to the girls and boys and the players are working on implementing them on the hardwoods. During practice the girls have been playing the boys in an attempt to work out some of the early season kinks. This is benefiting all of the teams. We've been blessed with some gym time at Fredericktowne Baptist Church and many of the players have been making good use of the optional practice time!

On November 20th the girl’s Varsity team played Mount Airy Christian Academy in a scrimmage at St. Michael’s. Our Warriors looked good on defense. Rebounding and passing kept us competitive. Several times during the scrimmage, Coach Barry hit the floor and huddled the girls for direct instruction.

It was a great tool for helping the players know just where to go and where to set up for defense and offense. During the game you could see players on the bench looking through their play books and making connections. On offense, the girls are still working on setting picks and executing options within the offense.

Thanks to all the parents and fans that cheered the Warriors on Thursday night.

This Monday and Tuesday the Varsity girls play in a tournament at Broadfording Christian Academy. Tip off Monday night was at 6:30pm in Hagerstown, MD. (an update to follow)

Clinic and Team Photo

The fall basketball clinic just ended and many of the girls on the team attended. Each Thursday they would show up for a good old fashioned workout.
They practiced ball handling and dribbling. They worked on passing and throwing. The night of the last clinic, they played each other in a girl against girl scrimmage. Coach Phil Passarelli started the clinic as a way to get boys and girls introduced to basketball. He's done a great job because this year, the Warriors have 3 teams: a boy's middle school team, a girl's middle school team and a girl's varsity team. All of these teams had their beginnings at clinic. Coach Phil runs the clinic and this year, Coach Barry and Coach John helped him.
Now that clinic is over, it's time for team practice and the real work to begin. The teams have already started practicing. Regular practices are on Tuesday and Thursday. There will be additional practices on Mondays.

The Warrior team from 07-08...some are returning and some are headed to the Varsity team. Returning players include: Emily P., Maggie Q., Kirsten B., Emily M., Katie F. and Joanna H. Headed to Varsity are: Jessica H., Krista D., Sarah R., Elizabeth C., Emily P., and Anna B. Coach Blickenstaff will head the Varsity squad. There are some new faces that will be appearing on the Middle School team....more to come on those Warriors.
