Loudoun County:: Middle School Boys

 The Warriors hosted the Loudoun County Patriots at Thomas Johnson Rec Center. Coach Passarelli welcomed our guests and opened the evening in prayer. Loudoun is also a homeschool team. The Warriors came out early with an 18 – 5 lead at the end of the first quarter. Many players had the opportunity to get their hands on the ball. The coaches helped the team play strong as different players filled the positions and executed the plays they had studied and practiced together.

 Chris Lamont was high scorer with 12 points. John Koffman lead the team in rebounds with 8 while many other players found the rebound including Chris Lamont, Benjamin Passarelli, Joel Kehr, Josiah Weaver, Timothy Diethrich, and Brandon Stewart. John Koffman, Joel Kehr and several other players had steals. The Passarelli brothers were successful at the basket, Ben with 2 points and Daniel with 4. Andrew Leaman added to the score when he stepped to the free throw line and hit for 1 point. The game ended with the only 3 point basket of the game, which brought smiles and cheers to the team and fans shot by Brandon Stewart. The Warriors won 13 – 34.

Varsity Girls Crank it Out: Mountain View Christian Academy Tournament

Game one:

The Frederick Warriors Varsity Girls hit the hardwoods looking sharp in their new uniforms on Thursday evening ready to take on the Mountain View Academy Conquerors.

 From start to finish, The Lady Warriors conquered the Conquerors 40 to 21.

Game two:

Wearing white, the Warriors were ready to play as the beginning whistle blew Saturday afternoon. Taking on The Saints from St. John the Baptist, the Warriors once again controlled the game.

 The final score was the Warriors 63, the Saints 14. After the game, the Warriors were presented with the tournament trophy and special awards went to Liz Catoe and Rebecca Reifsnider. Way to go Warriors!

Varsity Boys Debut

Varsity Boy's Debut: Mountain View Christian Academy Tournament

Game 1:

The Frederick Warriors Varsity Boys had an awesome first game! They controlled the tip-off with a dominant tip from Benjamin Carstens to Josiah Carstens and had the first possession of the game against the St. John team from Front Royal. After getting behind during the first half, the Warriors changed up to do a full court press which forced turnovers and allowed the Warriors to close the gap by halftime. The Warriors actually outscored St. John in the second half of the game and led the third quarter 15-10. Early in the fourth quarter, the Warriors tied the game at 31. As the game wound down, the Warriors played very hard and never game up. Josiah scored an exciting 3-pointer with 8 seconds remaining to make the final score 47-42.

The Warriors smiled, played hard, played as a team, and showed Godly character as coach Ron had challenged them. Scoring was very balanced with four of the starters all scoring between 9 and 11 points. Considering that these starters had never played together on a team before, their first game was very impressive. Nick and John each added 2 points. Eight different players on the team had at least one rebound.

Being the first game of the first season, there were some “firsts" which included:

First points scored (2 point layup) – Matt Kelly
First three pointer scored – Jacob Hughes
First foul shot scored – Benjamin Carstens

All in all, this was a very good start to the season with many lessons learned by all of the Varsity Warriors Boys!

Game 2:

 Anyone watching the Frederick Warriors Boys Varsity team and not knowing their history would be surprised to know that this is their very first season. On November 21, they played the team from Mountain View Academy in Winchester, Virginia and kept the game close throughout, even leading the game during the fourth quarter. The Warriors did get many opportunities to shoot, with the Academy players committing 31 total fouls during the game and having 4 of their 9 players fouling out. However, the Warriors were unable to convert many of these fouls into points.

Matt Kelly led all scorers in the game with 17 total points, scoring 13 of those points in the second half. Josiah scored 7 points for the Warriors, 5 of those points at the foul line. Benjamin Carstens, Christopher Leao, and Toby McGrath added to the team’s scoring for a total of 32 points for the Warriors.

 The Mountain View team made some clutch foul shots in the final minute to extend the lead to four points, which the Warriors were unable to overcome. The final score for the game was 36-32.

Benjamin Carstens and Christopher Leao each pulled down 7 rebounds and made 3 blocks to lead all Warriors.

After two games, Matt Kelly leads all scorers on the team with 24 total points and Josiah Carstens has scored 18 points.

Middle School Boys: Startin' it Off!

 The Middle School Boys opened their 2nd season of play against a tough Adams County Christian Academy team. The boys started quickly, running to a 10-2 lead after the 1st quarter.

 Things slowed down a little in the 2nd quarter but they still went into the locker room at halftime with a 12-5 lead. Aggressive defense was a key in this game and the Warriors had a slew of steals from the opening tip-off to the final bell.

 They continued to play strongly in the 3rd quarter and entered the 4th quarter with a 19-14 lead. The momentum continued in the Warrior's favor and they won the game 30-19. On the offensive side, John Koffman led all scorers with 11 points and Chris Lamont had 7 points. Daniel Passarelli and Nathan Wright each added 4 while Caleb Abel and Joseph Joannides put in 2.

The final minute of play saw some of the younger Warriors get into the game to make the team’s first victory of the season that much better. The Warriors will put their 1-0 record on the line Tuesday, November 24, against the Loudoun County Patriots, another homeschooling team.

Kickin' it Homeschool Style

 The Warrior Middle School teams kicked off the 2009-2010 season on Monday, November 16th. The girls, in their matching ponytail holders, took the hardwoods first. They came out strong and at the end of the first quarter they led Adams County 10 to 5.

 During the second quarter Adams County found their rhythm and took the led. Going in to half time, the score was 13 to 10 in favor of Adams County. Coach Quick rallied the girls during half time and when they came back out for the second half they controlled the game from the first in bounds until the final buzzer.

 The final score was the Warriors 36 and Adams County 27. Kathryn Romanchuk led the team in rebounds with a total of 6. Dishing it off all night long, Jackie Lamont had 3 assists. Emily Matthews and Joanna Hughes were the dynamic duo for steals. Respectively they had 4 and 3 for the game.

Mckenzie Quick debuted with her first Middle School bucket, going coast to coast on a rebound she laid in for a nice deuce. Congrats to the Middle School Girls on their first win of the season as well as a great display of sportsmanship and athletics
