Senior Spotlight!!!

Mary Barrows is the sole senior on the Warriors team this year. She is a quiet but strong presence on the Warriors. Her character shines through in the way she conducts herself on and off the court. We've been blessed to have her on the Warriors and she will be missed next year. Here are some tidbits about Mary so you can get to know her a bit better!

Senior night is Tuesday, February 17th. The Warriors will take on their rivals the Front Royal Flames at TJ Middle School.

Hampshire View

street ball anyone?

Thursday's game against Hampshire View Christian School was a 'no holds barred' kind of game. Had the middle school Warriors known what they were headed into, they would have worn their body armor. The game was fast and furious from the beginning. The referee let the girls 'go at it' with only one foul called for the entire game. Praise the Lord, that no one was injured.

HVCS played a fast break, very physical game and the Warriors made adjustments and successfully held HVCS to only 8 points. Emily Passarelli was the leading scorer on the Warriors with 12 of the 16 points. She lowered her shoulder and drove the lane to score numerous times. Emily had a double double as she also pulled in 10 rebounds.

The lady Warriors played scrappy defense and worked on shooting from the perimeter as points in the paint were hard to come by. Maggie Quick had 2 steals and Kathryn Romanchuk had 2 assists. It was a rough night for the Warriors but they managed to pull out the win and finish strong.

The final score was Warriors 16, Hampshire 8. Way to go Warriors. This makes the Warrior's record an amazing 10 and 0 for the season. They take on the Saints from St. James on Thursday for their final game of the season.

Patriots

Win #9!

The Middle School Warrior Boys hosted the Loudoun County Patriots, another homeschooling team, Tuesday night at TJ and came away with a 26-25 victory bringing their record to 9-0. The boys started strongly leading 7-3 at the end of the 1st quarter, 16-5 at halftime, and 25-9 at the end of the 3rd quarter. This was quite a change from their last few games when the level of competition prevented all our players from playing. The 4th quarter saw Jonathan Kiewit, Andrew Leaman, Jonathan Leao, Benjamin Passarelli, Nathan Williams, and Nathan Wright getting a lot of minutes on the hardwood. The Warriors had a very balanced scoring attack with Chris Lamont at 8 points, Christopher Leao with 6, Josiah Carstens with 4, Jonathan Kiewit with 3, Daniel Passarelli and Nathan Wright with 2, and John Koffman with 1. The boys next take on Crossroads Christian Academy (Winchester, VA) on February 9.

Mountain View

Conquered!

When you travel over an hour to get to a game it sure is nice to come home with three wins. That's what happened on Monday night. All three Warrior teams played the Conquerors of Mt. View Christian Academy in Winchester, VA. All three Warrior teams won!

The middle school girls played first and it was a nail-biter! Both teams went into the locker room at halftime with the Warriors having a sizable lead. But in the middle of the third quarter, the Warriors found the Conquerors creeping back into the game.

For several minutes it was neck and neck. Emily Matthews and Joanna Hughes made game changing plays with their scrappy defense. As a whole the Warriors had 26 steals for the night. 9 of those steals belonged to Emily Matthews. Jackie 'nabster' Lamont had 6 steals for the night! Kathryn Romanchuk and Emily Passarelli owned the board with rebounds. They each had 10 rebounds for the night.

Maggie Quick fouled out in the fourth quarter and Gabrielle Freese did an excellent job securing the #4 position. She had 8 rebounds for the night. Several timeouts were called late in the fourth quarter as the coaches drew up inbounds plays and looked for strategic ways to pull off a win. Tight defense and some last minute buckets allowed the Warriors to come out on top, 26-23. Coach Quick has 5 new gray hairs added to his collection after Monday night's win. Good job girls!

With strict instructions to the boys to not allow the game to get as close as the first game, the middle school boys took to the court second.

Early fouls kept Chris Lamont on the bench for most of the first half and the boys found themselves trailing at the end of the 1st quarter 6-4. They picked up their play defensively in the 2nd quarter holding the Conquerors scoreless and went in to the locker room ahead 9-6. The game heated up in the 3rd quarter with Mountain View pulling ahead 18-15.

 But the 4th quarter saw the Warriors employ a Triangle and Two defense with Josiah Carstens and Daniel Passarelli blanketing the Conquerors leading scorer, who only managed one basket.

 Leading scorers were Chris Lamont with 12 points and Christopher Leao with 10.

 Other scorers included John Koffman and Daniel Passarelli each scoring 2 and Jacob Hughes scoring 1. The Warriors came away with a hard fought victory against Mountain View Christian Academy 27-22.

Starting an hour behind schedule, the Varsity girls took to the floor with determination. The girls frustrated the Conquerors on defense, jumping out to an 18-4 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The Warriors shared the ball on offense with Sarah and Liz both having 5 assists. To further emphasize the teamwork, there were 8 different girls in the scoring column and 4 of those girls had 9 or more points.

They did an excellent job of seeing open teammates and feeding the ball to each other. Defensively, the Lady Warriors dominated their opponents on the boards with Rebecca Reifsnider grabbing 10 and Charity Poole and Sarah Reifsnider each pulling in 8 rebounds. Jessica Hughes and Mary Barrows pitched in with 4 rebounds apiece. Towards the end of the 4th quarter, the Conquerors knew they had been conquered and things began to get physical on the court.

Coach called a time out and told the girls that they were going to see a lot of "frustration fouls". The other team was losing badly and the girls were going to most likely take the brunt of it with cheap fouls. (which they did) He encouraged them to be ready and when they were fouled to just get back up and keep on playing. Coach Barry said, "Show them Christ...don't allow them to make you mad, don't react, just get back up and keep playing." There was no pushing back or nasty comments from our girls. They just set their faces like flint and walked it out! They won double last night. The varsity girls excelled in every aspect of the game and convincingly beat a solid Mountain View Christian Academy team 67-41.

ACCA

Standing Room Only

It was standing room only on Thursday night as all three Warrior teams played in Gettysburg. The middle school boys tipped off the night. The Warriors continue to improve each week and faced a very tough Adams County Christian Academy team. The boys started slowly, trailing at the end of the 1st quarter 9-4. But the team started hitting their shots in the 2nd quarter and ended up leading at halftime 16-15. They continued to play strongly in the 3rd quarter and entered the 4th quarter with a 27-24 lead. The momentum continued in the Warrior's favor and they won the game 40-32. On the defensive side, Caleb Abel was tasked with guarding the Ram's best player, who fouled out with 2 minutes to play, and rose to the occasion. Caleb took a bad fall in the 4th quarter and twisted his ankle. He’ll be out for a few games and we’ll be praying for a quick and complete recovery. On the offensive side, our scoring was very balanced with 3 players in double digits. Josiah Carstens and Jacob Hughes each scored 11 points and Christopher Leao added 10.

Rounding out the scoring were John Koffman with 6 points and Chris Lamont with 2. The Warriors put their 7-0 record on the line Monday, February 2, against Mountain View Christian Academy in Winchester, VA.

The middle school girls were second in the line up for the night. Everyone got time on the hardwoods. Defense was tight and helped keep the score in the Warrior's favor.

 Kathryn Romanchuk led the team in rebounding for the night with 9 total rebounds. Four of those rebounds were defensively. Maggie Quick, Emily Passarelli and Jackie Lamont followed with 3 defensive rebounds. Emily Matthews topped the charts with 5 steals for the night.

 Maggie Quick had 4 steals. On the offensive end, Joanna Hughes was leading scoring with 6 points. Kathryn Romanchuk and Emilly Matthews both cashed in 5 points. Other contributing scorers were: Emily Passarelli, Maggie Quick, and Amanda Stewart.

The final score was Warriors 24 to ACCA 13. This brings the Warriors to an outstanding 8 and 0. When Coach Quick was asked about the Warrior's undefeated record his response was, "Only by the grace of God have we won all those games!"

The Varsity Warriors rounded up the night with the third victory. The girls continue to improve and they played a great game. Every girl on the team got playing time in the game and played superb. It was a night of season highs! Emily Pritt had a season high of 8 assists.

 Rebecca Reifsnider had a season high total of 30 points.

 She and her sister Sarah were neck and neck on blocks for the night. Liz Catoe had a season high of 4 steals.

 In addition,the players coming off the bench had a season high of 17 points combined. Coach Barry was very proud of the combined effort of all of his players. Way to go Warriors!!

Although not recommended as a way to get prepared mentally before a big game, one has to wonder if the nicely done nails had anything to do with the win!?!
