Crossroads

It was the final trek of regular season play. The Varsity Warriors and the Boys Middle School teams headed to Winchester, Virginia on Thursday to play the Crossroad Cougars. This was the second meeting for both teams. The Lady Warriors finished their regular season strong. They controlled the scoreboard the entire game.
The Cougars only led after making the first bucket of the game. Once again team play was the key to the Warrior's success with 7 different girls having an assist. Rebecca dished out 4 and Mary had 3 for the night. On defense the girls came up with numerous hustle plays that held their opponents to only 10 pts. Ashley Kelly was all over the place as she raked in 5 steals. On the boards the Warriors were led by Rebecca with 9 rebounds
Sarah and Maggie each had 7. The girls look forward to post season play. They have won 5 of the last 6 games to make their regular season record 11-7. On Monday, the Lady Warriors take on Arlington Baptist as part of the Maryland Christian Schools Tournament. The game will be played at New Life Christian School, tip off at 6:00pm. Come out and support the Lady Warriors!

The Warriors defeated Crossroads Christian Academy 35-16 in a game that saw everyone getting some good playing time. The boys started off red hot as they led at the end of the 1st quarter 20-0 and 29-4 at the end of the 1st half.
The starters didn’t even work up a sweat as many played only a quarter. This allowed more playing time for the other Warriors. The Warriors continued to lead after three quarters 35-7 and finished the game strong.
Chris Lamont was the leading scorer with 9 points and the rest of the scoring was spread out among 8 other boys: Caleb Abel, Josiah Carstens, John Koffman, and Nathan Wright with 4 points each; Jacob Hughes and Daniel Passarelli with 3; and Jonathan Kiewit and Andrew Leaman (his first basket of the season) with 2. The 12-0 Warriors close out their season February 24 against the Loudoun County Patriots, who they beat 26-25 earlier in the month.
The Warriors closed out their inaugural season with a game against the Loudoun County Patriots, another homeschooling team.
This was a rematch of a game played earlier in the month. As with the first game, the Warriors started strong, leading 10-4 at the end of the 1st quarter and 23-8 at halftime. Like the previous game against Crossroads Christian Academy, all the boys got quality court time.
The Warriors continued to play well in the 2nd half, leading 27-19 at the end of the 3rd quarter and ending up 33-25 victors. Leading scorers for the team were Chris Lamont (8 points), Daniel Passarelli (7 points), and John Koffman (6 points). Other scorers included Jacob Hughes (4 points), and Caleb Abel, Josiah Carstens, Andrew Leaman, and Christopher Leao each with 2 points.
The boys finished the season a perfect 13-0 but most importantly, demonstrated Christ-like character in every game. Coach Phil and Coach Drew couldn’t be prouder of the boys! Way to go Warriors!
Thanks to Emily Passarelli for taking the photos at the boys Crossroads game and to Rich Lamont for capturing the Loudon County Patriots game.

Flames at TJ

Tuesday night was a double header at Thomas Johnson Middle School. It was a face off between the Frederick Warriors and their rivals the Front Royal Flames. The Middle School Boys team tipped off first.
The Warriors boy’s team has continued to improve as they’ve progressed through their first season. The boys are now 11-0 with their most current win against the Front Royal Flames (another homeschooling team). The game started slowly, with the Warriors trailing 8-6 after the first quarter. After the first quarter, the boys found their groove and by halftime, they were winning 17-12. The boys continued to play strong in the third (leading 29-20) and fourth quarters to capture the win. The final score was 35-24.
Everyone contributed to the victory with a big key being the aggressive defense applied to the Flames leading scorer – Caleb Abel, Josiah Carstens, and John Koffman were instrumental in keeping him in check. Leading scorers for the Warriors were Chris Lamont with 16 points and John Koffman with 10 points.
Rounding out the scoring was Josiah Carstens (6 points), Jacob Hughes (2 points), and Christopher Leao (1 point). The Warriors face Crossroads Christian Academy for a rematch on February 19. The boys will have their work cut out for them if they want another win!

For the Varsity girls, this was not only a chance to capture a win, it was also Senior Night. Mary Barrows is the only graduating senior on the Warriors squad this year. It was a great night set aside to honoring her. In a very fitting turn of events, Mary started and scored the game's first basket!
She kicked things off in Warrior style and midway through the first quarter the Warriors took control of the game with a swarming aggressive man to man defense. Throughout the game, the Warriors played great team defense helping each other out. They managed to hold Front Royal to a mere 14 points after three quarters. The Warriors turned pickpocket as Liz had six steals and Charity had 2. In the rebounding department, Rebecca had 14 rebounds with Charity pulling down 7. Krista and Sarah each grabbed 4.
The Warriors dominated the paint with 13 total block shots for the game (Mary-1, Charity-2, Sarah-4, Rebecca-6). The Warriors played strong throughout the entire match and finished the night with the final score 42-24.

St James

The Middle school Warriors met St. James on Thursday, for their final game of the season. On the line for the Warriors was a perfect record, a win would mean an undefeated season. The girls showed up ready to play after battling pneumonia, sinus infections, the flu and a variety of other illnesses.
The St. James team struggled against the Warriors full court man to man press and that allowed the Warriors to take a substantial lead at the half time mark. The Warriors went into the locker room with the score 21 to 8. Second half action found the Saints fighting back. At the 3rd quarter buzzer, the score was 27 to 12 and the Saints held the Warriors scoreless in the fourth quarter. But nonetheless, the Warriors completed their season with a victory over St. James, 27 to 20. Emily Passarelli was the leading scorer for the Warriors with 15 points for the night. She totally dominated the boards offensively! The Warriors had 22 steals for the night. Maggie Quick had 6 of those with Kathryn Romanchuk and Emily Passarelli snatching up 4 each. Maggie and Emily each had 9 rebounds for the night.
Kara Brown found herself with 2 offensive rebounds, which was a personal high! And Amanda Stewart also topped her personal rebounding high with 3 for the night! During the half, one of the referees commented to Coach Quick that, This isn't the same team that he officiated for in January! He wanted to know, "What have you done to these girls...they are much improved?!" What a wonderful testimony to the girl's hard work and improvement as the season wrapped up! Way to go Warriors! 11 and 0! Job well done!!!

The Varsity girls tipped off second and found themselves struggling against a tough St. James team. The Saints were moving the ball well and scoring on most every possession. The Warriors could have easily given up and chalked the game up as an early loss, but they never did.
After falling way behind at the beginning of the match, the Warrior girls showed a lot of determination and heart to cut the lead to within 6 points with 3 min. to go. Excellent coaching allowed the Warriors to beat the half court trap and the Warriors found themselves well within the reach of an upset. Even the fans could smell victory!!! Rebecca led the team with 11 rebounds and Charity had 5. Thanks to foul trouble by the Saints the Warriors picked up several points at the line. The Warriors shot 68% from the foul line! Sarah Reifsnider was 8 for 8. The final score was St. James, 46, Warriors, 35.
Even though the record books show this game as a loss, on a more fundamental the game was a win, as the Warriors showed heart and determination and never threw in the towel. They now look forward to returning to the court against their home school rival the Front Royal Flames.

CrossRoad - A Record Night

The Lady Varsity Warriors took on the Crossroad Cougars in Winchester on Monday night. The game was another win for the Lady Warriors. This makes 3 wins in a row for the Warriors. Rebecca Reifsnider scored her 1000th career point during the fourth quarter.

The 1000th point came on a foul shot and Rebecca was presented with a bouquet of balloons and a certificate documenting the momentous event.

The Warriors dominated the game from the beginning to the end. Every player logged significant playing time. Sarah Reifsnider, while playing outstanding defense, drew the first defensive charge of the year. Coach Barry is all ready to make good on a promise that the first player to take a charge would get dinner on him. Most likely, Sarah will be celebrating at Subway!!

Liz lead the team in steals with 4 nabs for the night. Maggie Quick pulled down 10 rebounds and Rebecca pulled in 8 for the night.

The Warriors outscored the Cougars 46-12.

The Middle School Boys took the court second and they played another great game Monday night against Crossroads Christian Academy. They led from start to finish with the final score 40-24.
This was another game that allowed the younger players to get a lot of court time. The Warriors started fast, racing to a 14-6 first quarter lead and then a 20-8 halftime advantage. The boys didn’t let down in the second half, taking a 26-14 margin into the fourth quarter.
The scoring was spread out among 9 players with John Koffman leading with 10 points. Christopher Leao (7) and Chris Lamont (6) followed. Other scorers included Josiah Carstens and Jacob Hughes each with 4, Daniel Passarelli (3), and Caleb Abel, Benjamin Passarelli (his first points of the season), and Nathan Wright each scoring 2.
The 10-0 boys next take on the Front Royal Flames (another homeschooling team) on February 17.

Special thanks to Emily Passarelli for taking pictures during the boys game! Thanks Emily!!!

Hampshire View

Thursday's game against Hampshire View Christian School was a 'no holds barred' kind of game. Had the middle school Warriors known what they were headed into, they would have worn their body armor. The game was fast and furious from the beginning. The referee let the girls 'go at it' with only one foul called for the entire game. Praise the Lord, that no one was injured.

HVCS played a fast break, very physical game and the Warriors made adjustments and successfully held HVCS to only 8 points. Emily Passarelli was the leading scorer on the Warriors with 12 of the 16 points. She lowered her shoulder and drove the lane to score numerous times. Emily had a double double as she also pulled in 10 rebounds.

The lady Warriors played scrappy defense and worked on shooting from the perimeter as points in the paint were hard to come by. Maggie Quick had 2 steals and Kathryn Romanchuk had 2 assists. It was a rough night for the Warriors but they managed to pull out the win and finish strong.

The final score was Warriors 16, Hampshire 8. Way to go Warriors. This makes the Warrior's record an amazing 10 and 0 for the season. They take on the Saints from St. James on Thursday for their final game of the season.

Patriots

The Middle School Warrior Boys hosted the Loudoun County Patriots, another homeschooling team, Tuesday night at TJ and came away with a 26-25 victory bringing their record to 9-0. The boys started strongly leading 7-3 at the end of the 1st quarter, 16-5 at halftime, and 25-9 at the end of the 3rd quarter. This was quite a change from their last few games when the level of competition prevented all our players from playing. The 4th quarter saw Jonathan Kiewit, Andrew Leaman, Jonathan Leao, Benjamin Passarelli, Nathan Williams, and Nathan Wright getting a lot of minutes on the hardwood. The Warriors had a very balanced scoring attack with Chris Lamont at 8 points, Christopher Leao with 6, Josiah Carstens with 4, Jonathan Kiewit with 3, Daniel Passarelli and Nathan Wright with 2, and John Koffman with 1. The boys next take on Crossroads Christian Academy (Winchester, VA) on February 9.

Mountain View

When you travel over an hour to get to a game it sure is nice to come home with three wins. That's what happened on Monday night. All three Warrior teams played the Conquerors of Mt. View Christian Academy in Winchester, VA. All three Warrior teams won!

The middle school girls played first and it was a nail-biter! Both teams went into the locker room at halftime with the Warriors having a sizable lead. But in the middle of the third quarter, the Warriors found the Conquerors creeping back into the game.

For several minutes it was neck and neck. Emily Matthews and Joanna Hughes made game changing plays with their scrappy defense. As a whole the Warriors had 26 steals for the night. 9 of those steals belonged to Emily Matthews. Jackie 'nabster' Lamont had 6 steals for the night! Kathryn Romanchuk and Emily Passarelli owned the board with rebounds. They each had 10 rebounds for the night.

Maggie Quick fouled out in the fourth quarter and Gabrielle Freese did an excellent job securing the #4 position. She had 8 rebounds for the night. Several timeouts were called late in the fourth quarter as the coaches drew up inbounds plays and looked for strategic ways to pull off a win. Tight defense and some last minute buckets allowed the Warriors to come out on top, 26-23. Coach Quick has 5 new gray hairs added to his collection after Monday night's win. Good job girls!

With strict instructions to the boys to not allow the game to get as close as the first game, the middle school boys took to the court second.

Early fouls kept Chris Lamont on the bench for most of the first half and the boys found themselves trailing at the end of the 1st quarter 6-4. They picked up their play defensively in the 2nd quarter holding the Conquerors scoreless and went in to the locker room ahead 9-6. The game heated up in the 3rd quarter with Mountain View pulling ahead 18-15.

But the 4th quarter saw the Warriors employ a Triangle and Two defense with Josiah Carstens and Daniel Passarelli blanketing the Conquerors leading scorer, who only managed one basket.

Leading scorers were Chris Lamont with 12 points and Christopher Leao with 10.

Other scorers included John Koffman and Daniel Passarelli each scoring 2 and Jacob Hughes scoring 1. The Warriors came away with a hard fought victory against Mountain View Christian Academy 27-22.

Starting an hour behind schedule, the Varsity girls took to the floor with determination. The girls frustrated the Conquerors on defense, jumping out to an 18-4 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The Warriors shared the ball on offense with Sarah and Liz both having 5 assists. To further emphasize the teamwork, there were 8 different girls in the scoring column and 4 of those girls had 9 or more points.

They did an excellent job of seeing open teammates and feeding the ball to each other. Defensively, the Lady Warriors dominated their opponents on the boards with Rebecca Reifsnider grabbing 10 and Charity Poole and Sarah Reifsnider each pulling in 8 rebounds. Jessica Hughes and Mary Barrows pitched in with 4 rebounds apiece. Towards the end of the 4th quarter, the Conquerors knew they had been conquered and things began to get physical on the court.

Coach called a time out and told the girls that they were going to see a lot of "frustration fouls". The other team was losing badly and the girls were going to most likely take the brunt of it with cheap fouls. (which they did) He encouraged them to be ready and when they were fouled to just get back up and keep on playing. Coach Barry said, "Show them Christ...don't allow them to make you mad, don't react, just get back up and keep playing." There was no pushing back or nasty comments from our girls. They just set their faces like flint and walked it out! They won double last night. The varsity girls excelled in every aspect of the game and convincingly beat a solid Mountain View Christian Academy team 67-41.
