Grace Academy Holiday Tournament vs. Highland View Academy (VG)

The second night of the Grace Academy Holiday Tournament saw the Warriors matched up against Highland View Academy. This was to be an extremely physical game but the Warriors had come to play, and they stuck with Highland View for the first half.
The second half was a struggle and Highland View was fast to pass the ball to their giant inside player, giving them many easy baskets. The Warriors, on the other hand, ran into some sort of an offensive block, no one’s shot would consistently hit!
Even though they were down in points for the rest of the game, the girls kept their heads up, were equipped with good attitudes, and played the whole game through with as much intensity as anyone could have.
A quick shout out to Gabrielle Freese, Emily Passarelli, Abby Messinger, and Emma Matthews for not backing down inside in an extremely physical game with girls much bigger than themselves. Gabrielle led the team in rebounds, pulling down 8, with Emily right behind with 7. Way to be strong, ladies! Leading the way in steals was Emma (6) followed by Ashley Kelly (5).  The leading scorers for the night were Ashley and Emily, having 4 points each. Emma and Priya Stepp also contributed to the score board getting 2 points each. Congratulations to Priya for scoring her 1st basket as a Warrior! Great job, Priya! J Gabrielle also had 2 blocks.
Maybe the Warriors didn’t end up on top in points at the end of the game, but great job ladies! Way to play hard and never give up.

Grace Academy Holiday Tournament vs. St. Maria Goretti (VG)

The first night of the Grace Academy Holiday Tournament the Warriors were set to play St. Maria Goretti High School. Goretti is known as a basketball powerhouse and is always a tough competition for the Warriors. That night was no different.

Goretti had speed, height, aggression, and a bench. The Warriors clearly did not match up! In the first few minutes the Warriors took a 3 - 2 lead, stuck with Goretti, and threw them for a loop with tough defense. After a few more minutes however, Goretti pulled ahead and kept the lead until the end.

Goretti may have won as far as points go, but by the end of the game the Lady Warriors had stolen the hearts of the entire gym. Even fans from Goretti were cheering for our girls! Following the game the players and coaches from Goretti pulled Coach Matthews aside and told him that the way our girls played is how all teams should play; they loved our Christ-like attitude and were amazed at how well we carried ourselves on the court. What a testimony to what the Warriors strive for!

Mountain View Christian Academy Tip-Off Tournament vs. Shenandoah Golden Eagles (VB)

The Warrior boys had an early start on Saturday and after a tough loss the night before were more than ready to take on the Golden Eagles.

The boys looked strong from the very start of the game! Each player was focused, played tough defense, and boxed out. The eagles couldn’t keep up!

It was clear the Warriors were a stronger team and this allowed every player to get a good amount of court time. J

Leading the entire game the Warriors finished out on top with the final score 60 - 33. The boys played unselfish ball and each player contributed greatly to this win. John Koffman led the team with 19 points; followed by Daniel Passarelli (11), Chris Leao (8), Toby McGrath (6), Michael Pefley (5), Josiah Carstens (5), Jonathan Pefley (4), and Michael Owens (2). Toby pulled down 10 rebounds with Jonathan and Michael Pefley (5), Chris (4), John, Daniel, and Michael Owens (3), and Jason with 2. Way to crash the boards, Warriors! Daniel led the team in assists, dishing out 6. Josiah was right behind him with 5, and Jason led the team in steals, taking 3.

The Warriors played strong until the very end and had a great game. Good job Warriors!

Adams County Christian Academy (VB)

The Warrior boys were up next to challenge the Adams County Christian Academy Rams. All twelve boys were looking sharp and ready to play.

And the boys’ first quarter made up for any lack of action in the girls’ first quarter J They moved the ball fast and took the lead within the first couple minutes of play. The boys kept up the intensity all the way until halftime, leaving the fans to cheer them on their way out to the locker room.

After halftime the Rams played some tight defense and caught up with the Warriors. It was a close game to the very end with the Warriors holding on and ending up on top 55-53.

Chris Leao led the team in scoring with 18. Other contributors to the scoreboard were John Koffman (8), Joel Kehr (8), Toby McGrath (6), Josiah Carstens (6), Daniel Passarelli (5), and Michael Owens (4). Toby hauled in 12 rebounds with Chris (9) and Daniel (5) also crashing the boards. Josiah led the team in assists with 6 for the night with John right behind him with 5.

Great game guys! Way to start the season.

Adams County Christian Academy (VG)

The girls were the first to start things up for the Warriors and with their matching hair and Warrior blue eyeliner they were more than ready to meet the opposing team, Adams County Christian Academy.

The first half action was lacking. In the first quarter, ACCA had six to the Warriors three points. Then at the half, with the girls still trailing, Coach Ortner pulled them together and explained some new plays to them.

With a combination of new plays and tough defense the girls took the lead in the third quarter and pulled down a win.

Everyone contributed greatly to this win. Gabrielle, Emily, and Abby led the team in rebounds. Priya, Emma, and Amanda led the team in steals. Ashley and Emma led the team in baskets for the night, Ashley with 11 points and Emma with 13. While Gabrielle and Abby hit some key shots, Katey and Priya also took to coach’s instructions and did not back away from shooting. The Warriors ended up on top finishing 28-24.

In the end it was a great win for the Warriors to begin their season.
