New Life

The Warrior girls middle school team took to the court against the Lady Rams on Monday night. Even though they won in their last meeting, the Warriors knew this would be no easy win. Starting for the Warriors were: Kara Brown, Kirsten Blickenstaff, Mckenzie Quick, Joanna Hughes and Gabrielle Freese. These girls held the NLCS Rams to zero points in the first quarter and well into the second quarter. They played hard defensively. Kara Brown and Joanna Hughes each had 1 steal and 1 defensive rebound.

Joanna Hughes led the team in blocks with 3 for the night. Maggie Quick, who came in during the second quarter led the team in points. Kathryn Romanchuk was second in scoring for the night.

Emily Passarelli played stellar defense and grabbed 5 rebounds during the match up. There was much excitement during the night as Amanda Stewart hit her first bucket of the season.

Maggie Quick sank a basket at the buzzer bringing the final score to 14-7. The Warriors came out on top! The Middle School girl Warriors are now 7 and 0 for the season. They will face Adams County Christian Academy on Thursday night.

The boys played New Life Christian School for the second time in just 10 days. The Rams were off their game the first time around and the Warriors knew this would be a much different game. And they were right! Despite the better playing by the Rams, the Warriors still emerged victorious with a 28-24 victory.

By playing steady offense throughout the game with a few high energy spurts here and there and switching to a box-and-one defense in the second half, the Warriors continued in their winning ways. On offense, Chris Lamont led all scorers with 11 points, with Josiah Carstens and Christopher Leao contributing 5 each.

Rounding out the scoring was John Koffman with 3 points and Jacob Hughes and Nathan Williams each with 2. On the defensive side, John Koffman and Caleb Abel played real Warrior defense against the Rams stellar point guard, shutting him down in the second half to just two free throws and a late basket. The Warriors are now 6-0 and take on Adams County Christian Academy on January 29

Grace Academy

All three Frederick Warrior teams played games on Tuesday night in Hagerstown. Grace Academy was the venue for a night of basketball.

The first game of the night was the Middle School boys. The Warriors played another good game against Grace Academy, winning 31-22. This was a close game, with the score not representative of how even the teams were.

The boys started fast, leading 12-4 after the 1st quarter. Despite their quick start and early lead, the Warriors went cold in the 2nd quarter, scoring 0 points. They played great defense and managed to keep the lead going into halftime 12-6. The 3rd quarter saw both teams warm up with Grace outscoring the Warriors 9-8 and the 4th quarter saw the Warriors turn up the heat and outscore Grace 11-7.

The leading scorer for the Warriors was Chris Lamont with 12 points and Josiah Carstens was right behind with 9. Other scorers included Jacob Hughes and Daniel Passarelli, each with 5 points. The 5-0 Warriors next take on New Life Christian School (Frederick, MD) on Monday, December 26, in a rematch of their December 16 game.

The Middle School girls took to the hardwoods second. The game started out slow and rather awkward. There was no score for the first 3 minutes of play. Finally, after the start of the second half, the Warriors began to play with more energy and teamwork. Maggie Quick was the high scorer with 6 points and Emily Passarelli had 5. Emily Matthews found her self at the the foul line several times during the game. She surely went home with some bruises.

Emily Matthews played great defense with a game high of 10 steals. The Warriors as a team had 35 steals for the night!

Rebounding was another area of significance in Tuesday night's game. Maggie Quick and Kathryn Romanchuk had 10 rebounds each. The team had a total of 34 rebounds and 12 blocks. Eight of those blocks were Maggie Quick's. The girls really hustled and worked hard on every play. The win was a hard fought win. This victory against Grace brings the Middle School Warriors record to 6 and 0.

The final game of the night showcased the Varsity Warriors against the Varsity squad from Grace Academy.

First half action found the Warriors looking for their drive. At the start of the second half the Warriors came out of the locker room fired up and ready to play. They had an excellent second half. The girls played hard, coming up with every loose ball. They out-rebounded Grace by a margin of 38-18.

Rebecca Reifsnider led the way with 15 rebounds and Charity Poole had 6. Defensively the Warriors played a grab all you can game.

New Life

It was a middle school double header on Friday Night at New Life Christian School in Frederick. The Middle School girls took the court first. For a lot of the girls this was "the big game" of the season. They took to the court a bit nervously and not really sure what to expect but they played as a team and ran their plays with more success than ever. Each girl got to play 2 full quarters. Emily Passarelli led the scoreboard with 8 points and Maggie Quick was right behind her with 7.

Kathryn Romanchuk and Emily Matthews both contributed 4 points. "Defense wins the game", is Coach Quick's philosophy and with that in mind...Maggie had 9 rebounds. Emily Passarelli had 6 rebounds and Kathryn Romanchuk pulled down 4 rebounds. Mckenzie Quick grabbed her first rebound of the year.

Emily Matthews led the team in steals, followed by Emily Passarelli and Jackie Lamont with 3. The final score was Warriors 21, Rams 8.

Part two of the double header was the Warriors Middle School boys team. The Warriors boy’s team continues to improve each time it takes the court. They are now 4-0 with a win against New Life Christian School 27-9.

The game started slowly, with the Warriors leading 4-0 after the first quarter.

Then they warmed up and went into the locker room at halftime with the score 13-2. The boys continued to play strong in the third (leading 19-6) and fourth quarters for the win. Everyone contributed to the victory with a balanced offense combined with an aggressive defense.

Scoring was spread out among 6 players with Josiah Carstens leading the team with 7 points, Chris Lamont and Christopher Leao each put in 6, Jacob Hughes scored 4, and Caleb Abel and Daniel Passarelli each added 2.

They face New Life again on January 26 and they’re anticipating a much closer score as New Life was very cold from the floor. The boys will have their work cut out for them if they want another win! Our next game is against Grace Academy (Hagerstown, MD) on January 20.

Hagerstown

The Frederick Warriors split their games last night in Hagerstown. The Varsity girls took a loss and the Middle School girls picked up a win.

The Varsity team found that the St. James squad played a very physical game. Their opponents got into early foul trouble, which the Warriors and their coaches hoped would be to their benefit. Unfortunately, it didn't end up helping them as expected. The Warriors went into the locker room at half time with the possibility of a win still within reach

After the half, the Lady Saints employed a 1-3-1 press which the Warriors found frustrating to break. This lead to multiple turnovers which hurt the Warrior's chances of pulling out the win. All of the squad got playing time and they all gave their best effort. Rebecca led the team in scoring with 11 points. Sarah brought in 4 points and Elizabeth had 3 points for the night as well as 3 steals. Charity brought down 6 rebounds. Rebecca who fouled out in the fourth quarter had 9 blocks and 16 rebounds.

Ashley Kelly hit an energizing 3 point shot in the second half that had the fans on their feet. The final score was St. James 43, Frederick 28. The Warriors will meet the Saints again on February 12th.

The Middle School girls got off to a slow start after the controlling tip off. But as the game moved along, the girls found their confidence and really worked well together.

Passing and looks between players really helped get the ball down inside and that made for good scoring. Kathryn Romanchuk and Emily Matthews led the team in scoring.

Emily Passarelli had 5 points. Maggie Quick had 10 rebounds for the night and Jackie Lamont had an amazing 4 assists. Coach John was encouraged that plays were run and executed with success. Amanda Stewart tied up the ball to give the Warriors a turnover during a shooting drought. Kara Brown had her first defensive rebound of the season.

Joanna Hughes had 2 steals for the night along with 2 rebounds. The girls looked great and this win brings their season record to 4 and 0. In their next game, they take on New Life Christian School this Friday night.

Carlisle

Even the refs were smiling last night as the Warriors met the Crusaders in Carlisle, PA.
The Middle School girls were the first to take the floor. This was a great opportunity for all of our girls to get some solid playing time. Maggie Quick lead the way with 6 defensive rebounds while Emily Passarelli and Gabrielle Freese both had 5 defensive rebounds.

Kathryn Romanchuk topped the team in offensive rebounds with 7 while Maggie and Emily both had 5. Emily Passarelli helped with 3 assists and Maggie kept things going with 4 steals and 2 blocks.

The vigorous play of Mckenzie Quick, Kara Brown, Kirsten Blickenstaff, Amanda Stewart and Joanna Hughes held the Crusaders to 9 points.

Kirsten, Mckenzie and Emily P. found themselves in foul trouble, but coach John was heard to say..."I'm happy they're in the game giving it all they've got!" The final score was Warriors 26, Crusaders 9. The Middle School team's record is now 3-0.
The Middle School Boys took the court second and they played another great game Monday night against Carlisle Christian Academy.

They led from start to finish with the final score 40-23. This was another game that allowed our younger and less experienced players to get a lot of court time. As in their last game, the Warriors started fast, racing to a 13-5 first quarter lead and then a 25-9 halftime lead. Chris Lamont (16) and Josiah Carstens (10) led the Warriors in scoring.

Other scorers included Christopher Leao (6), and Caleb Abel. Jacob Hughes, Daniel Passarelli, and Nathan Williams each added 2 points to the Warrior total. The 3-0 boys next take on Adams County Christian Academy on January 9.
The final game of the night was the Varsity Warriors. After a slow, low scoring start, the Warriors found their game in the second half. They began to hit their shots and crash the boards with much more determination.

Rebecca Reifsnider had a stellar night with 21 points, 19 rebounds and 7 blocks.

Charity Poole contributed to the Warrior win with 7 rebounds. Jessica Hughes also pulled down 4 rebounds.

All the Lady Warriors had time on the hardwood Monday night. The team win was a definite group effort. The final score was Warriors 31-Carlisle Christian 14. The Warriors have a record of 4 wins, 4 loses. Their next game will be at Adams County Christian School on Friday night.
