Hagerstown

The Frederick Warriors split their games last night in Hagerstown. The Varsity girls took a loss and the Middle School girls picked up a win.

The Varsity team found that the St. James squad played a very physical game. Their opponents got into early foul trouble, which the Warriors and their coaches hoped would be to their benefit. Unfortunately, it didn't end up helping them as expected. The Warriors went into the locker room at half time with the possibility of a win still within reach

After the half, the Lady Saints employed a 1-3-1 press which the Warriors found frustrating to break. This lead to multiple turnovers which hurt the Warrior's chances of pulling out the win. All of the squad got playing time and they all gave their best effort. Rebecca led the team in scoring with 11 points. Sarah brought in 4 points and Elizabeth had 3 points for the night as well as 3 steals. Charity brought down 6 rebounds. Rebecca who fouled out in the fourth quarter had 9 blocks and 16 rebounds.

Ashley Kelly hit an energizing 3 point shot in the second half that had the fans on their feet. The final score was St. James 43, Frederick 28. The Warriors will meet the Saints again on February 12th.

The Middle School girls got off to a slow start after the controlling tip off. But as the game moved along, the girls found their confidence and really worked well together.

Passing and looks between players really helped get the ball down inside and that made for good scoring. Kathryn Romanchuk and Emily Matthews led the team in scoring.

Emily Passarelli had 5 points. Maggie Quick had 10 rebounds for the night and Jackie Lamont had an amazing 4 assists. Coach John was encouraged that plays were run and executed with success. Amanda Stewart tied up the ball to give the Warriors a turnover during a shooting drought. Kara Brown had her first defensive rebound of the season.

Joanna Hughes had 2 steals for the night along with 2 rebounds. The girls looked great and this win brings their season record to 4 and 0. In their next game, they take on New Life Christian School this Friday night.
