Carroll - MSB

The Frederick Warriors Middle School Boys basketball team headed to Westminster, Mon. Feb. 1, for a match-up against the Carroll Christian School Patriots. The game's early going found the Warriors playing very tough defense, completely bottling up every Patriot attempt at scoring. In fact, the Warriors held the Patriots scoreless through the first period, while putting together a good team effort on offense with crisp passing, and many offensvie rebounds. First quarter score: 8-0 Warriors! Early in the second period, the Patriots finally sank a foul shot for their first score of the game, but the Warriors answered with a flurry of offense: Daniel Passarelli drained a 2-point jump shot followed quickly by a 3-pointer, and Joel Kehr then added a 2-point field goal. This exciting sequence resulting in a dominating lead for the Warriors. To the Patriots' credit, they did continue to probe offensively and tighten up defensively in the remaining minutes of the period, resulting in a half time score of 17-7 Warriors.

The Warriors resumed their steady-paced offense and tough defense, maintaining and building the lead as play continued in the third period; the Patriots had again started the period slowly, but improved their offensive efforts toward the end. The officials made their presence felt with their enthusiastic calls of the occasional miscues by both teams. Third quarter score: 28-11 Warriors! The fourth period began with a change of defensive tactics by the Patriots, as they employed the full court press. This move proved a challenge for the Warriors, but they dug deep to adjust, the sizable lead held, and the Warriors improved their record to 10-2 with a 35-24 win.

For the Warriors, Daniel Passarelli led all scorers with 10 points; John Koffman followed with 9; Chris Lamont had 6. Lamont led rebounds with 7; Koffman had 6, and Caleb Abel had 5. The team recorded 9 assists, and defensively amassed 13 steals.
