After a tough loss to the New Life Rams in the opener of the New Life Christian School Shoot-Out Tournament on Friday, the Warriors played Mt. Airy Christian Academy in the consolation game on Saturday at New Life.
It was a difficult match-up for the Warriors as the Mt. Airy squad started quickly and kept the pressure up on the Warriors. And in addition, the third of three games in three days took its toll on the Warriors.
Mt. Airy led 38-22 at the half and finished with a 75-44 win over the Warriors.
The scoring for the Warriors was evenly distributed with Daniel Passarelli having 11, Chris Leao 9, Toby McGrath 8, John Koffman 6, Josiah Carstens 5, Alex Leao 2, Michael Pefley 2, and Jonathan Pefley 1. For rebounds, Toby lead with 12, Chris had 6, John had 4, Alex had 2, and several boys had 1. John led with 5 assists, Josiah 3, and several boys had 1. Toby and Chris each had 2 blocks for the game.

New Life Christian School Shoot-Out Tournament vs. New Life Christian School (VB)

The Warriors were in the New Life Christian School Holiday Shoot Out Tournament and found themselves facing the New Life Rams. A height difference was obvious. New Life had 4 starters over 6 feet with three of them being 6’5”. The Warriors started out slow, seeming a little intimidated to shoot against the taller defenders.
As time went on though, the intimidation left. The boys warmed up to shooting and had several good looks at the basket. But the tight defense and strong offence by the Rams found the Warriors still trailing by halftime.
The Warriors came out stronger in the 2nd half. The Warriors had a great night in outside shooting. Daniel Passarelli hit seven 3-pointers! John Koffman, Josiah Carstens, and Jason Kehr all also contributed to the 3-point scoring. Daniel led the team with 25 points, with John following with 11, and Toby McGrath and Chris Leao each with 6. Toby and Chris led the team with 5 rebounds each, with Jonathan Pefley, Alex Leao, and Daniel all had 2. John led the team with 8 assists, Josiah behind him dishing out 4. John also led the team with 3 steals. Chris led the team with 2 blocks.
The Warriors didn’t end up on top for scoring, but they hustled and never gave up. Everyone contributed greatly to the game. Great job Warriors!

Carlisle Christian Academy (VB)

After watching 3 games before their own, the guys were more than ready to take on the Carlisle Crusaders. They came out strong and took the lead early on in the game.
The Warriors were much faster and out-hustled the Crusaders and by halftime the Warriors were up by a good amount and had the fans cheering them on as they headed to the locker room.
The Warriors kept their pace and had the Knights trailing throughout the entire 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter the Crusaders’ shooters got hot and it was a intense game until the end. The Warriors found themselves down 65 to 52 when the final buzzer went off.
Toby McGrath led the team in rebounding, pulling down 12, with Chris Leao (8) and Jonathan Pefley (5) following him. Josiah Carstens was high scorer with 16 points; other contributers were John Koffman (15) and Toby and Chris both with 7. John and Toby also led the team in assists, dishing out 4 each, Josiah right behind them with 3. Josiah led the team in steals, nabbing 4.
The Warriors didn’t end up on top but they worked hard. They left the game wanting a re-match on a better polished court. :)

Carlisle Christian School (VG)

Thursday night, third game of the week, the Lady Warriors took on The Carlisle Christian Academy Knights. After a delayed start the girls tipped off to a taller, stronger, more well-rested, and more experienced team.

The first quarter was promising with many steals, fast breaks, and looks inside by the Warriors. With the referees calling a tight game, however, it wasn’t long before the girls got in foul trouble. By halftime the Warriors were trailing 19-16.
The ladies pulled together and took the court after halftime playing great ball, but soon ran into a relentless press by the Knights. Having had no time to practice against a press, the Warriors were definitely being challenged.
In the fourth quarter with the girls still trailing Coach Ortner called his last time out and told the girls to play relentless, man-to-man, full court defense. Our girls, although exhausted, followed Coach’s directive and played some of the best defense they have played all season, shutting Carlisle down.
Gabrielle Freese pulled down 10 rebounds with Emily Passarelli (7) right behind.  Emma Matthews led the team in scoring with 9 points, Gabrielle and Emily both had 4 points, Ashley Kelly had 3, and Abby Messinger and Amanda Stewart both had 2 points for the night. Emma also led the team with 6 steals and Emily led the team in blocks for the night, having 3.
It was another hard loss for the Warriors, but the girls left knowing they had a full week of practice coming up so they would be better prepared for the next game J

Carlisle Christian Academy (MSB)

The Warriors took their turn next to play the Carlisle Knights, and as it being the 1st game of the season, they were pumped and ready to play. The Knights were around the same height as the Warriors and it was a good match-up from the beginning.
The Warriors hung in there through out the whole 1st half, never down by more than a few points. They played strong defense and left the fans cheering them on their way to the locker room.
They came out just as strong the 3rd quarter, only being down 16-18 half-way through the 4th quarter.
At the end of the 4th quarter, the Knights got several steals and the easy lay-ups, and by the time the final buzzer went off the score was 22-16.
Daniel Messinger and Benjamin Passarelli led the team in scoring, having 4 points each. Following them was Douglas Flynn, Al Pedroza, Jonathan Leao, and Zach Althoff all with 2 points each.
Even though the Warriors lost, they played hard and well, considering it was the 1st game of the season. Great job Warriors!
