HSPN Game 1 - VG

The HSPN tournament starts with pool play.  Each team plays in a pool with three other teams.  Pool play helps determine which division the girls are then placed in for the championships.  Depending upon wins and loses in the pool play rounds, the teams are then placed into a division.  After the divisions are finalized, each team plays a first round game and then either a consolation round or a championship round.  There are four divisions this year for the girls.
Wednesday at 12:30pm the Varsity girls took on Albemarle Christian from Charlottesville, Virginia.  The Lady Warriors controlled the game right from the very start.  The Warriors played a very tight defense only allowing Albemarle to score 10 points in each half of the game.
Liz Catoe had 3 steals, Ana Blickenstaff, Jessica Hughes, Rachel Joannides and Maggie Quick each had 2 steals.   Kathryn Romanchuk and Rebecca Reifsnider each had 1 block.  One aspect of the game that really hurt Albemarle was the foul line.  They weren't able to convert their shots at the charity stripe into points.  On the other hand, the Warriors were better than 50% from the line.
Every Warrior got time on the hardwood in the matchup with Albemarle.  Maggie Quick led the team in rebounds with 10.
Kathryn Romanchuk had 9 and Rebecca Reifsnider pulled in 6.  Unselfish play definitely contributed to the Warrior's win.  Liz Catoe had 3 assists.  Charity Poole had 2 and Rachel Joannides and Ana Blickenstaff each had 1.   The final score was the Warriors 43, Albemarle Christian 20.  Way to go Warriors!
