After getting to bed after 1:00am the night before this morning the Warriors had breakfast and headed to the Vines Arena to cheer on their teammate Rebecca Reifsnider in the final round of the 3 point contest. The girls cheered Rebecca on to victory as she sunk 9 threes in 1 minute. Her opponent sank 6.
Rebecca was given a medal and a check for $50. We are so proud of her. It was a great way to start the day!
After the contest, the girls headed back to the hotel and had devotions and then went to lunch. They headed back over to the Vines Arena for the final game of the tournament.
In the championship game the Warriors were facing the South Carolina Hurricanes. The first quarter action was lacking. The girls seemed to have a hard time running their plays and making aggressive defensive moves.
Tentativeness dominated the entire first half. The Warriors were the beneficiaries of the referees whistle the first quarter, but the second quarter brought a streak of 7 whistles on the Warriors.
When the girls headed into the locker room at half time they had 9 fouls and only 8 points. The score at the half was 8 to 15.
Apparently, Coach Barry knew just what the girls needed to hear...or just what he needed to say, because the Warriors they came out on the court in the second half were playing much better.
They ran their plays and played aggressive defense. By the beginning of the fourth quarter they were only down by 2 points.
Foul trouble allowed the Warriors to pick up points with the clock stopped and with three minutes and forty seconds left, the score was tied at 31.
At the end of the game, the Warriors won with the score 33 to 38! The Warriors are the division 2a champions!! Way to go girls! We're so proud of all of you!!
Rachel Joannides led in rebounds with 8. Rebecca Reifsnider had 7 for the game. Liz Catoe had 3 steals for the night and the Warriors as a team had 8 steals. Rebecca Reifsnder had 3 blocks.
