Playing at the same time as the varsity guys, except in Virginia instead of Pennsylvania, the Warrior ladies were facing yet another team that appeared to have a size advantage. Yet, for the first several minutes of the game the score remained at zero. The ladies were able to pick up their game and by the end of the first quarter were leading 7-1. However, starting the second quarter and throughout most of the remaining game, the Lions threw a full-court zone press against our ladies. Having very little experience with beating the press, the Warriors struggled to bring the ball up the court. The press resulted in many turnovers, and allowed the Lions to win the game with a 12-point lead of 38-26.
The Warrior ladies played an amazing game though, all things considered. Their defense was tight and forced the Lions to work for their shots. And, although it was frustrating, they gained much practice in playing against a press. Way to make them work for their win, ladies!
