Carroll - VB

On December 8, the Boys Varsity team hosted Carroll Christian school at Thomas Johnson Middle School in Frederick. As has been the situation most of the season, the Warriors fell behind in the first quarter by 18-8. During the second and third quarters, the Warriors fought back and outscored their opponent. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 31-29 in favor of Carroll Christian. However, during the fourth quarter, the Carroll Christian team pulled away to win 51-40.
While the Warriors did not win, there were several great efforts made by many of the players on the team. Ben Cook led all players on the team with 17 points and 12 rebounds as well as three dramatic blocked shots. Most of his points were scored as a result of assists from Josiah Carstens, who was playing less than 100% as he hasn't fully recovered from his illness over the weekend. After Bradley Cole had scored 16 points for Carroll Christian early into the second quarter, Matt Kelly marked him on defense for the remainder of the game holding him scoreless, picking up three steals, and scoring a total of 8 points, 4 of them from the foul line. Jacob Hughes was on fire from outside, going 2-for-2 outside the three point line (and being fouled on another three point shot) ending up with 9 points as the second highest scorer on the team. Ben Carstens blocked three shots and made 6 rebounds in a game where the Warriors owned the boards, outrebounding the opponent.
Once again, the first-year Warriors were competitive against another established team. After 7 games, the Warriors have had a very balanced scoring attack among the starters with Jacob Hughes leading all Warriors with 52 points, Ben Cook with 49 points, Matt Kelly with 48 points, Ben Carstens with 42 points, and Josiah Carstens with 37 points. Three Warriors have more than 10 steals: Matt Kelly(14), Josiah Carstens(13), Benjamin Carstens(12).
