Fairfax - VB

On December 3, the Varsity Boys team played the Fairfax Homeschool team in Chantilly, VA as part of a quadruple-header with the Varsity Girls, Middle School Girls, and Middle School Boys Warrior teams.
The Fairfax team took a quick lead of 20-6 at the end of the first quarter as the Warriors had trouble getting shots to drop. Starting in the second quarter, the Warriors began to press the Fairfax team, leading to many unforced turnovers and resulting in the Warriors outscoring the Fairfax team through the second and third quarters and through most of the fourth quarter, even being as close as 6 points behind early in the fourth quarter. At halftime, the boys changed to a "box-and-1" defense to cover the leading scorer on the Fairfax team. While running this defense, the Warriors completely shut down their leading scorer with Matt Kelly shadowing him and the remaining "box" doing well to generally shut down the inside game for the Fairfax team. In the end, the Warriors were outscored by the Fairfax Homeschool team 48-32.

Matt Kelly led all Warriors with a total of 11 points and Ben Cook had several strong inside moves resulting in a total production of 8 points. Ben Cook led all Warriors with 6 rebounds and Benjamin Carstens pulled down 5 rebounds.

After 6 games, the Warriors have had a very balanced scoring attack with Jacob Hughes leading all Warriors with 43 point. Benjamin Carstens and Matt Kelly have each scored 40 points. Josiah Carstens has 35 points and Ben Cook has 32 points. Christopher Leao leads the bench scoring with 19 total points.
The team has quickly adapted to play a very effective full court press and "box-and-1" defense in addition to the standard zone defenses. Every game shows improvement in both team play and individual skills
