New Life Tournament - VG

Friday, Round One:
The Varsity Girls were invited to participate in New Life Christian School's Holiday Tournament on December 4th and 5th. The Warriors took on the Maryland School for the Deaf's Orioles Friday afternoon at 4:00pm. The Warriors were the underdog going into the match. They started off a strongly, and they kept the momentum throughout the game. Halftime found the Warriors ahead and with a sigh of relief they went into the locker room. The Orioles came back and were determined to win in the second half. But the Warriors held strong and due to their strong defensive play, beat the Orioles 53-47.
The dynamic sister duo of Rebecca and Sarah led the team in blocks with 7 combined. Rebecca had 9 rebounds and Charity and Rachel each pulled in 4 rebounds. Liz not only nabbed the ball, but she shared beautifully as well with 4 steals and 5 assists. The Warriors moved on to the Championship round with their win over MSD. Way to go Warriors!

Saturday, Round Two:
With the snow blowing outside, the crowd was red hot and ready for Saturday's match up featuring the Frederick Warriors and the Mount Airy Christian Academy Lions. Both teams were fired up and ready to go! The Warriors got off to a slow start....nerves seemed to get in the way of good passing and shooting. But, the Warriors who never shrink from competition, put on their game face.
In the second quarter, the Lady Warriors found their groove and settled in to playing their game. MACA led the entire game, but thanks to some key buckets by Sarah, the Warriors pulled to within three. In fact, our girls played so well that Rebecca had a game high of 17 rebounds with Rachel pulling in 11.
Sarah, Maggie, Ana and Liz all also reigned in significant rebounds. Rebecca had 3 blocks and Ana had 2 for the contest. Liz led the team in assists with 4 and she duplicated that with steals. Ana nabbed 2 balls resulting in a possession change in favor of the Warriors. The Warriors never gave up, but late game fouling in an attempt to gain possession of the ball resulted in the Lions winning by 9 with the final score being MACA 40 and the Warriors 31.
