Cumberland Valley Christian School (VG)

After the National Anthem beautifully sung by Abby Messinger and her mom and brother, the Lady Warriors were ready to kick off their full week of basketball. Although they were missing Amanda Stewart and Katey Althoff the girls were very excited as this was their first game with their new teamate Bethany Carstens, who will be joining the Ladies for the remainder of the season.
At the start of the game the Lady Blazers scored quickly and by the end of the quarter had the Warriors trailing 11-3. The Ladies came into the second quarter picking up fouls and putting the Blazers on the line multiple times. Though falling off the scoreboard, the Warriors were able to successfully break the full court press that the Blazers put on our girls. At half the score was 26-7.
Going into the second half the girls were looking for a comeback. Which they got a piece of, scoring 10 points to the Blazers 16 points in the second half. The Warriors kept their heads up though, keeping smiles on their faces and playing hard. The Ladies ended the game losing 42-17.
Emma Matthews led the team with 7 points (passing 100 points for the season). Emily Passarelli scored 3 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, had 2 blocks, and an assist. Ashley Kelly also had 3 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. Abby Messinger had 2 points, 16 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Gabrielle Freese pitched in 2 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 assist, and a steal. It was yet another loss, but the Ladies never gave up and played with heart and determination the entire game. Good job ladies!

Cumberland Valley Christian School (VB)

The Warriors opened strong; building an 8-point lead in the first quarter, 19-11. The Warriors cooled off in the second quarter, scoring only 13 points, but maintained their lead 32-23 at half

The Blazers applied a zone press in the second half, creating a number of turnovers from the Warriors. The Warriors lead was down to 5 points after 3 quarters. By the fourth quarter, the Warriors had figured out how to break the press and how to make free throws. The scoring output was back up to 19 points in the final quarter. Final score: Warriors 59, Blazers 53. The Warriors were 19 of 27 from the foul line for the gam, including 15 of 22 in the final quarter.

Carlisle Christian Academy (VB)

The Warriors Varsity Boys went to Carlisle, PA for the second time this season to play the Carlisle Christian Academy Crusaders. Play stopped late in the first quarter to honor the achievements of Carlisle's senior center, Peter Fisher, as he surpassed 1,000 points for his career at Carlisle. Although the Warriors held the Crusaders' scoring leader to just 11 points in the first half, the Warriors enjoyed only a 2-point advantage at the break, 28-26.
The Warriors' box-in-one defense was not so successful stopping Fisher in the second half as he poured in 27 after the intermission to lead the Crusaders to a 60-56 win.

Daniel Passarelli paced the Warriors with 20 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Josiah Carstens added 16 points. Toby McGrath pitched in 9 points and 8 boards. John Koffman scored 8 points with 10 assists and 2 rebounds. The Leao brothers, Chris and Alex, added one bucket apiece with 7 and 6 rebounds, respectively.
Great effort, Warriors! God is so good. He teaches us patience and temperance through many avenues, even tough lossses. May we be singular of purpose, to give Him all the glory!

Highland View Academy (VB)

The Warriors Varsity Boys team traveled back to Highland View Academy on Monday night to take on the Tartans. The two teams had met the week before, with the Warriors pulling out a 9-point win.
The Warriors came out strong, making a layup right away. They played great defense and took a 12-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Tartans came out in the second quarter ready to take the lead, hitting 3's and getting the ball inside, but the Warriors' defense and unselfish offense kept them from taking the lead. The score at halftime was 27-23.
Both teams came back from halftime pumped, making great passes leading to open shots. At the end of three quarters the score was 41-39 with the Warriors in the lead. With the lead of only two, the Warriors came out and played excellent. They got a good lead, and kept it till the end. The final score was 60-55.
Chris Leao played an excellent game having a double-double with 17 points, 13 rebounds, 1 steal, and a block. John Koffman had 13 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. Daniel Passarelli was right behind him with 12 points and an assist. Toby McGrath scored 10 points, pulled down 7 rebounds, and had 2 assists. Josiah Carstens had 3 points, 1 assist, and a steal. Jason Kehr also scored 3 points and Joel Kehr 2 points. Jonathan Pefley pulled down 2 boards.

It was another great win for the Warriors. Great game guys!

Grace Academy (VB)

The Warrior Varsity Boys met the Grace Academy Knights for the second time this season on Friday night. In the first affair, the Warriors came back from 16 down to edge the Knights by one point, 68-67. The meeting was a lower-scoring, tighter game throughout the early going. Every basket, rebound, and turnover were magnified. The Knights came out pressing from the get-go. The Warriors struggled and gave up a few turnovers.
The first and second quarters were back and forth with the Knights leading 10-8 and 19-16, respectively. Third quarter play saw the Knights get more aggresive on the offense end with more shots falling. The Warriors upped their output, as well, but not at the pace of the Knights. End of three: 36-28, Knights. The Warriors worked hard to stay in it during the final period , but the Knights did not let up, extending their lead to a 49-37 win.
Chris Leao and Josiah Carstens had 11 points each. Chris added 6 boards. Toby McGrath scored 7 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. John Koffman added 6 points, 5 assists, and 4 boards. Jonathan Pefley scored a bucket and grabbed 4 rebounds.

The Warriors demonstrated Godly character throughout, congratulating the Knights on a well-earned victory.

Grace Academy (VG)

To wrap up a long week of basketball our ladies headed to Hagerstown to face the Grace Academy Knights. This would be the second meeting for the girls, and they knew to come ready for some tough competition. Grace had an age and size advantage; plus their coach had informed Coach Matthews that the Knights would be pressing throughout the game.
In the first quarter the ladies were getting good open shots, and keeping a tight and solid defense. They allowed the Knights only 7 points in the first quarter, sinking 6 themselves. However, a foul at the buzzer gave the Knights one additional point as they sunk a free-throw, giving them 8 points to start the second quarter.
As promised, though, the Knights ran a full-court trapping press in the second quarter, which resulted in many turnovers. This left our girls frustrated and trailing far behind the Knights going into the second half of the game, the score being 25-8.

The Knights came out in the second half and, like every other team the Warriors had played this week, hit three-pointer after three-pointer, making 7 in the third quarter alone! The score at the end of three was 45-16. With their lead, Grace put in their second string players. When playing girls their own age, the Warriors excelled, leaving the second string almost scoreless. The Warriors, on the other hand, scored 16 points in the second half. The final score was 49-24.
Emily Passarelli led the team with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Ashley Kelly was right behind her with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. Emma Matthews had 4 points, 2 assists, and a board. Gabrielle Freese scored 2 points, pulled down 8 rebounds, and 1 block. Amanda Stewart pulled down 2 rebounds.

It was another tough loss but the Warriors played well and continue to improve as each game goes by. Great job ladies!

Faith Christian Academy (VB)

The Warrior Varsity guys traveled to Martinsburg, West Virginia, to play the Faith Christian Academy Falcons. It was a physical game but the Lord's protection was evident.
The Warriors were under stiff pressure throughout from a trapping press and tough man defense from the Falcons. The first half pressure caused a number of turnovers and quick shots by the Warriors and allowed the Falcons to build a 18-point lead at half, 30-12.
Halftime adjustments motivated the Warriors to fight back throughout the second half. The Warriors figured out how to break the press and even got several successful fast break buckets, passing the ball ahead to the open man. The Warriors steadily chipped away at the Falcons lead, outscoring the Falcons by five each of the third and fourth quarters. The final tally was 53-45 Falcons.
The Warriors had balanced scoring from Chris Leao (11), Toby McGrath (10), Josiah Carstens (9), Daniel Passarelli (7), John Koffman (6), and Alex Leao (2). Rebound totals were Toby (7), Chris (6), John (5), Jonathan Pefley (2), and four other players with 1. John had 9 assists, Josiah 2, and four players has 1. Daniel had 5 steals, Josiah 3, John 2, and two players had 1.

The Warriors displayed great determination in fighting to the end agaisn't a bigger, stronger opponent, showing strong character all the while. Praise the Lord!
