The Warriors had won against Adams County once before, but only by 2 points, and not having played in a game for almost 4 weeks, the girls were nervous, but ready to play.
They started out a little slow and by the end of the 1st quarter the girls were up 6-5. With the combination of new plays and a new box-in-one defense, the girls picked up the pace and by halftime were up 18-8. The fans cheered them on as they headed out to the locker room.
In the 3rd quarter the girls came out strong and did not disappoint. The box-in-one defense really worked, and they got many fast break lay-ups. They also passed the ball strong, made some good moves to the basket, and had many put-backs, and played unselfish ball. The offense fed off the defense the entire game.
At the end of the 3rd quarter the Warriors had extended their lead even more, the score being 32-13. In the 4th quarter they stopped the box-in-one and moved to a 2-3 defense. Though the defense had changed, the intensity hadn’t, and the girls played tough defense till the end. The final score being 40-25.
Scoring for the night was spread out, with almost every girl on the team putting something on the scoreboard. Including Katey Althoff, draining her first Warrior basket! Leading the Warriors in scoring for the night was Emma Matthews with 12 points. Following her was Gabrielle Freese (9), Ashley Kelly (8), and Amanda Stewart (5). Gabrielle led the team with 18 rebounds, following her was Abby Messinger (13), Emily Passarelli (9), and Emma (4). Ashley led the team with 3 assists, Emma right behind her with 2. Everyone contributed to the steals, leading them all was Ashley with 6. Behind her was Emma (4), Amanda (3), and Abby, Priya Stepp, and Emily all with 2. The team had a combination of 21 steals for the night. Gabrielle, Emily, and Ashley all led the team with 2 blocks each.
The girls had a great game and played with heart the entire time. Great job girls!
