Friday night the Varsity girls tipped off against the Carroll Christian Patriots. Both Priya Stepp and Katey Altoff were unable to make the game, so the Warriors had only 6 players to play all 32 minutes.
The first half of the game saw the Warriors struggling to keep up with the Patriots. They got into foul trouble early, and couldn’t keep up with the quick offense and tight defense of the Knights. At the end of the half the score was 22-7.
Due to 2 injuries and much foul trouble the girls asked Ana Flynn from the Warriors middle school team to play with them, and she joined varsity for the night!
After the half, and with their new teammate, Ana, the girls set up plays and worked the ball around the Patriots man-to-man defense. But the skill and bench of the Patriots was just too much for the Warriors to come back, and the girls lost by 43-15.
Each player got much playing time, had fun, and played their very hardest. Ashley Kelly led the team with 5 points, with Emma Matthews (4), Amanda Stewart (3), and Emily Passarelli (2) right behind her. Gabrielle Freese led the team with 7 rebounds. Other rebounders were Abby Messinger (5), Emily (4), and Amanda (4). Amanda led the team with 2 assists. Abby led the team with 3 steals, right behind her was Ashley with 2. Gabrielle and Emily led the team in blocks, both having 3.
The girls had an off night, but they never gave up and played their hardest till the end. A big thank you to Ana for stepping in and playing varsity ball. We couldn’t have done it without her!
