The Frederick Warriors Varsity Boys met the New Life Christian School Rams for the second time this season on Saturday evening.
The Warriors began the game playing a 2-3 zone on defense against the taller, faster Rams. After falling behind by 11 points in the first quarter, the Warriors started pushing the opponents further out of the paint on defense and picked up their game; powered by an 8-point second quarter from Chris Leao. The Warriors pulled to within a bucket of the Rams late in the quarter. Then a bit of foul trouble and exertion drained the Warriors and the Rams stretched the lead back to 11 at the half.
The Warriors could not find their shooting touch in the second half against the Rams' man defense and points were scarce in the third quarter, with the Rams pushing their lead up over 20 points. The Warriors employed a man defense of their own in the second half, but the size of the Rams was too much. The Warriors fought hard till the end, putting up 51 to the Rams 79 points.
John Koffman led all scorers with 25 points, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 boards. Chris Leao had 11 points and 6 rebounds. Toby McGrath had 6 points and 8 rebounds. Daniel Passarelli contributed 6 points. Jonathan Pefley had 2 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. Alex Leao had 3 boards.
All the boys demonstrated Godly character and great effort in this one.
