St. James - MSG

The second game of 2010 for the Middle School girls started off looking like a solid, no-problem win.  But the heavy action in the fourth quarter reminded everyone that a win isn't a win until the buzzer sounds.  The Lady Warriors were confident and played well as a team the entire game despite the frenzy of the fourth quarter.  In the third quarter, they enabled their full court man to man press which created turnovers.
The Warriors capitalized on those turnovers and converted them into points which allowed them to lead at one point by as many as 9.  Every girl got good minutes on the hardwood and every player gave 100%.
All was looking good, but with 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Saints staged a very threatening comeback.  Some key turnovers by the Warriors allowed the Saints to gain momentum.  The Saints scored 14 points in the fourth quarter and with one minute left the score was 19 to 21.
Some careful passing, a free throw made by Jackie Lamont and good clock management allowed the Warriors to come out on top.  Next, Monday, the Warriors will be on guard as they take on the St. James Saints for round two.
Leading the Warriors in rebounding for this contest was Kathryn Romanchuk with 6.  Jackie Lamont, Joanna Hughes and Gabrielle Freese each had 2 rebounds.  Joanna Hughes topped the team in steals with 9 (breaking the team record set in the previous game) and Jackie Lamont was snatching balls right behind her with 7 nabs for the night.

Kara Brown, Gabrielle Freese, Joanna Hughes, Mckenzie Quick and Kathryn Romanchuk all had blocks for the night.  The girls played aggressively and worked hard to get the W.  The final score was a close 22 to 19 with the Warriors coming out as the winner!
